Last Tribute to Pele the king of football

Barcelona players have paid tribute to Brazil legend Pele who has died at the age of 82. The Brazilian is one of the greatest players ever to grace the game and is the only player ever to win the World Cup three times. Pele scored an incredible 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances in his career, including 77 in 92 outings for Brazil. Barcelona led the tributes with a post on social media that read: “Barça expresses its sorrow to learn of the death of the “Rei” Pelé, one of the greatest footballers of all time. He made football greater than ever. May he rest in peace.” Players both past and present have also paid tribute to the great man.

Reactions poured in from around the world to the death of Brazilian soccer legend. Argentina’s soccer star Lionel Messi remembered Pele, while Brazil football star Neymar paid tribute to Pele and said he "transformed football into an art." France's Kylian Mbappe condoled Pele's death and said that his legacy "will never be forgotten.” Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo called Pele an "inspiration to millions." Pele is the only footballer in history to have won three World Cups -- in 1958, 1962 and 1970. During his 21-year-long career, Pele scored a world record 1,281 goals in 1,363 matches. In his career, Pele scored 77 for Brazil, a mark only equalled at the recent World Cup by Neymar, who lauded the legend for putting Brazil on the map. “He turned football into art, into entertainment He gave voice to the poor, to the blacks and especially: He gave visibility to Brazil,” Neymar wrote.

“My deep condolences to all of Brazil, and in particular to the family of Edson Arantes do Nascimento. A mere "goodbye" to the eternal King Pelé will never be enough to express the pain that the entire football world is currently embracing. An inspiration to so many millions, a reference yesterday, today and forever,” Ronaldo said. The 37-year-old said the love Pele showed to him was reciprocated in every moment they shared, even those they shared from a distance. Mbappe took to his Instagram handle to remember Pele. The footballer paid tribute to the legend by sharing pictures.

Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in October 1940, played his first game for Santos as a 15-year-old in 1956. He earned a call-up to the national team a year later, scoring on his debut against Argentina. In 1958 he was picked for the World Cup in Sweden and the rest is history.
