Rajasthan has received highest-ever rainfall in June, thanks to cyclone Biparjoy. According to Jaipur meteorological department, the state has received 156mm average rainfall in June which is highest-ever rainfall recorded since 1901 when collection of data was started. Radhey Shyam Sharma, director, Met office Jaipur, said, “The June rainfall usually remains 60mm to 70mm. However, due to heavy rainfall brought by Biparjoy followed by monsoon rainfall, the state received a rainfall of 156mm which is 185% higher compared to the normal rainfall in the state.” “Yes, it is highest-ever rainfall of Rajasthan for June. Also, last time a rainfall of 122mm was received in June 1996 and that too is lesser than what we have received in June 2023,” said Sharma. He said, cyclone Biparjoy brought heavy to very heavy rainfall in Jalore, Pali, Barmer, Rajsamand, Sirohi and Ajmer districts from June 16-20. Monsoon also arrived on time and it progressed in the state at a faster pace and covered entire Rajasthan by June 30,” he added.
From June 22, monsoon arrived at many places in the state which added to the rainfall for June. On the other hand, Met office said that southwest monsoon is likely to be revived from Wednesday. “For the past two days, monsoon was not active in the state and many places had even received its maximum temperatures on or above 40 degree Celsius. But, from Wednesday, monsoon would be again active in the state and at least 12 districts are likely to get moderate to heavy rainfall,” said Met department. It said, monsoon would be active at Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur and Bharatpur divisions of the state. The districts in the western Rajasthan too will start getting monsoon rainfall from Thursday onwards.
