The chief minister on Wednesday approved a proposal to give maternity leave to women appointed on contract basis in government departments. Earlier, casual employees were denied maternity leave. "Eligible contractual women employees will get 180 days of maternity leave," said a statement from the information and public relations department.
The proposal will be applicable to the workers who have worked on contract for 80 days in the past 12 months. "However, this will not be applicable to those who have two children. The contractual amount for maternity leave will be equal to the last contracted amount received before proceeding on leave," it added. ailing the progressive step, a woman staff at the district collectorate said, "Earlier, such employees used to continue to work till the date of delivery to avoid pay cuts or job loss."
