Sreekaryam police have registered a case against a couple for allegedly cheating a 72-year-old person of Rs 14 lakh by offering high returns in a gold investment scheme. The case was registered against the owner of Emirates Gold Souk at Kallampally Jayasheelan and his wife Annie Jayasheelan. As per the complaint given by Ramachandran Nair of Saranya Nilayam, Sreekrishna Nagar near Cheruvaikkal at Sreekaryam, the accused had deliberately cheated him after winning his trust. Police said that the complainant had reached the shop to buy gold in July 2017 and the accused allegedly explained to him about a scheme.
As per the scheme, for each Rs 1 lakh, the accused had offered Rs 1,500 per month and at the end of the scheme gold worth Rs 1 lakh will be returned. It sounded attractive for the complainant, and he invested Rs 14 lakh. Till January 2020, the complainant received Rs 1,500 for each one lakh and at the end of the scheme, the complainant demanded gold worth the value of the invested money. However, the accused failed to give the gold as promised and he approached police with a complaint. "A case has been registered against the accused under section 420 of the IPC and 34 ," said police.
