A sessions court in Jabalpur has sentenced a man to 110 years of rigorous imprisonment for giving fake appointment letters in the name of MP high court to at least 15 people after charging them Rs 5,000 to Rs 30,000 each.
According to the prosecution, the convict, Purushottam Pasi, had given fake appointment letters to 100 people, but only 15 such cases could be put up in court. Additional district & sessions judge Abhishek Saxena sentenced Pasi to five years' rigorous imprisonment in each case under IPC section 420, and three years each under IPC sections 467 and 471.
The sentences would be consecutive, not concurrent, the court said, which means Pasi's jail term is 110 years long. He was also fined Rs 15,000. According to the prosecution, Pasi took money from 100 people, promising to get them jobs in the Madhya Pradesh high court. Woman accused acquitted.
He prepared forged appointment letters with the help of a woman accomplice. The victims came to know of the forgery only when they went to MP high court to 'join duty'. Some of them lodged a complaint with Cantonment police station on December 18, 2013, and a case was registered against Pasi and the woman. She was acquitted by the court for lack of evidence.
