Earlier, announcing the film's OTT release, SonyLIV had tweeted, "Dulquer Salmaan as SI Aravind Karnakaran will take charge on Sony LIV from March 18! The investigative thriller Salute will be streaming on SonyLIV in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada."

The crime thriller has been backed by Dulquer's banner Wayfarer Films. The film was pushed from its theatrical release on January 14, owing to the pandemic. Announcing the big news through Instagram, Dulquer wrote, "SonyLIV and Wayfarer films are glad to come together to bring you #Salute directed by Roshan Andrews and written by Bobby-Sanjay."
Theatre owners in the state said on Tuesday that they would not cooperate with Dulquer Salmaan and his production house Wayfarer Films anymore following his decision to release the upcoming movie Salute on OTT platform.
Vijayakumar said FEOUK has officially decided not to cooperate with Dulquer and his movies in future until they will get a positive response from him in this regard.
- Salute is an upcoming Indian Malayalam-language crime thriller film, directed by Rosshan Andrrews and written by Bobby-Sanjay starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role as a cop. Produced by Dulquer Salmaan under his banner Wayfarer Films, the film has Aslam K. Purayil as the cinematographer while A. Sreekar Prasad handles the editing and Santhosh Narayanan was signed on to compose the original background score before being replaced by Jakes Bejoy
- The film was scheduled for a theatrical release on the occasion of Pongal in January 2022, but was indefinitely postponed later due to the rise of Omicron cases in India. Later, It was announced that the film would be skipping the theatrical release and decided for a direct-to-streaming release on SonyLIV. It is now scheduled to primere on 18 March 2022

- Representatives of Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEOUK) --- the apex body of theatre owners --- said that the actor violated the agreement with them. Salute, produced by Wayfarer Films and directed by Rosshan Andrrews, was supposed to hit theatres on January 14. "Now they have announced that Salute will be released on OTT platform, which is a violation of the agreement with exhibitors. The movie's release was postponed due to the spike in Omicron cases. We had opened bookings, but had to refund the money. Wayfarer Films told us the movie would be released in theatres later," said FEOUK president K Vijayakumar.
Ever since the announcement, the leading man has been sharing sneak-peeks of the film, which clearly evinces how gripping Salute is going to be. The film has Aslam K Purayil as the cinematographer while A Sreekar Prasad handles the editing department. Jakes Bejoy has composed songs and background score for the entertainer. Notably, music director Santhosh Narayanan was first signed to compose music for Salute but was later replaced by Bejoy, owing to reasons best known to the team.
